THE SESSION.
The “N.Z. Times” says that Parliament is faced with a heavy contract to get through its work in the four weeks which by general consent constitute the extreme limit of the session. Half of the Estimates—quite the more important half—remains to bo disposed of, and there is also the Public Works Statement and several important Government Bills, besides the incomplete work in hand. When the Prime Minister resumes his place, probably on Thursday, the House may be in the mood for hard work, and chat .will have to lie the rule till the end, if members are to have a chance ,)f wooing their constituencies before the elections. The Legislative Council will bo occupied with a number of second readings, included in the list being the Mutt Railway and Hoad Improvement Amendment Bill. The Mental Defectives Bill will bo put through its final stages. Several local Bills arc also on the order paper.
