The revenue for the quarter ended 30th September totalled C 31,220,019, Customs contributing £8,510,000, excise , £5,035,000, stamps • £2,183,000, and income tax £2,457,000. A TOBACCO MILLIONAIRE. London, October 2. The estate of the late Henry Wills, of the well-known tobacco linn, has been sworn at two millions, and lias been divided amongst his lour sons. Large bequests were made under the will to Bristol charities. FESTIV AL OF EM 1M RE AW A RD. (Received 3, 10.30 a.m.) London, October 2. The Festival of Empire has awarded a bronze medal to F. R. Brown, of New Zealand, for painting.
WHITE STAR LINE. London, October 2. Tho White Star line is building two much larger and faster steamers for the Australian service than they have been hitherto employing. The company is superseding the older boats as quickly as possible. MOUNT LYELL STRIKE. Melbourne, October 3. The Amalgamated Mine Employees’ Association lias lodged a claim to the Federal 'Registrar for a compulsory conference in connection with tho Mount Lyell dispute.
