A NEW CHURCH

Timaru, October 1
The ceremony of blessing the now Catholic Church, which is said to be the largest and one of the handsomest in the Dominion, was performed to-day. The exterior of the building is striking, and the interior is very fine indeed. The church was crowded at the special service. In the irn pressive ceremonial and service, four bishops took part, Bishop Cleary, of Auckland, preaching.
CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION
Christchurch, October 1
At the annual dinner of the Canterbury branch of the New Civil Service Association last night, the principal subject discussed was classification, several speakers expressig the hope that a scheme would bo submitted shortly.

ASSOCIATION
Auckland, October 1
The Auckland Bookmakers’ Association has notified the Builders’ Association that in consequence of the increase of wages awarded to their employees by the Arbitration Court, the price of bricks will bo advanced 2s 6d per 1000 from to-morrow, making the price £5 per 1000 for all contracts let on or after that date.
