OPERATIC SOCIETY FORMED.
AN ENTHUSIASTIC MEETiML A meeting of the performers in the recent ‘.‘Trial by Jury” was held on the 2ot!i ins-., when it was resolved to form a society to be called the Stratford Amateur Operatic Society, with the object of producing selected operas from time to time. The meeting was ft very enthusiastic one, and, despite the rough night, over thirty members acre present. Mr. Dunfop was voted to the chair. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year;—ration, Mr. J. B. Hine, M.P.; president, Dr. A. D. Carbery; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Masters; F. W, Wake, A. W. Budge, T. C. Fookes, Joy. McClujA gage, Wv .G.' Malone, Rev. W. A. Jiutler, and Rev. Father Treaty; bon. secretary, Mr. F. H. Wilkie; lion, treasurer, Mr. P. Skoglund; general committee, Lieut. Lumpen, Messrs. T. A. Lonergan, N, F. Dunlop, E. W. Lewis, 0. W. Vaughan, N. Templer, and A. Barry; ladies’ committee, Mrs. Hogg, Mrs. I). Cardale, and Mrs. G. Bond; selecting and casting committee, Dr. Carbery and Mr. T. Grubb and Mrs. Johnstone; conductor, Mr. T. Grubb; stage manager, Dr. Carbery; assistant stage manager,' Mr. Geo. Bond; pianiste, Miss Black. The subscription was fixed at 5s for gentlemen and 2s fid for ladies. It is probable that the society will undertake some now piece, almost at once, so as to get the ground-work in hand before the Christmas vacation.
