A- BRILLIANT FUNCTION

The, j annual ball of tlio Fire Brigade has always been looked upon as an enjoyable affair, and this year’s balb /was no exception to the rule. Proceedings started with a grand march of children in fancy dress at holi-past seven. The children presented a gay scene as they went through a number of attractive evo- ; lutibas f under . the. i direction- of ' ‘Mi st" Grubb.; The • xharcli took place through an arch 1 ornamented with' flags from, which a bell was suspended. -The march over, the children indulged in dancing for a couple of hours, when the floor was given over to the aduli dancers. Only one adult appeared in fancy dress, Mr. J. D. Murray, . representing a I'oroster,While. • the children held the floor there was a big attendance of spectators, the stage and dress circle being crowded. An excellent supper was provided, having been canvassed from citizens by members of vne ladies’ Committee; Everything went without a hitch,, and dancing was kept up until 2 a.m. this morning. ■ Excellent music was supplied by the orchestra from His Majesty’s Theatre, their services having been kindly offered by Madame Bernard. The following committee wore in charge of the ladies’ part of the arrangements: MesdcymoS Grubb, Rowson, Sheahan, and Hodge, the Misses Cramer and Miss McDonald. The duties of M.C.’s were capably carried out by Foremen Wilson and Burgess and Fireman Rickleben. The excellence of the arrangements generally reflects the highest credit on the secretary, Foreman Burgess, who must have done a great deal of preparatory work. Over a hundred children attended in fancy dress, and a list of the dresses will appear in our next issue.
