(Per Press Association.) Levin, September 28. Dominion Day was observed as a holiday by half the business places in Levin, but the others kept open ail day. The proprietors of the latter half have since considered the matter, and have now intimated that in future they will close their establishments, thus having complete holiday observance locally. it is felt that the time has come for the proper observance of Dominion Day, and Palmerston and Fcilding protests against it are not approved of. f-Tho ! 'pbulli'y ; industry ’lias become well established in the Levin district. One firm despatched over one ton of eggs to-day to Wellington, being close upon one thousand dozen. As three other firms operate on a large scale hero, it may be set down that Levin and district sends two thousand dozen eggs to Wellington weekly. The Leader of the Opposition has arranged to address a public meeting at Levin on Monday week. Mr James Allen speaks at Shannon on Saturday evening, and endeavours are being made to secure an address at Foxton by another prominent member of the Opposition. All three towns arc in the Otaki electorate. ’ As a result of the recent rains, Horowiienua County is verdant throughout, and milk yields at present greatly exceed all previous records for September. It is rumoured that ho had a quarrel with someone regarding the funeral arrangements for a local native woman, who was buried on Tuesday, and in a fit of auger, shot himself. An inquest is being held to-day.
