INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.

AT CHIIISTCHUHCH. (Pei - P ross Association.) Christchurch, September 7. Preparations for the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council industrial exhibition, to bo opened in a month's time, are in a forward condition. Valuable assistance has,been "endured the .executive by tho Industrial Association and the Employers’ Association, ar. l the project, promises to ho very successful. All space has been allotted, and exhibits will be representative of the industries of Canterbury, in addition to tho Government exhibit. It is stated that the latter "ill he a very line one. Tenders "ill bo called shortly for a temporary building to ho used .as a concert hall.

Tho Advertising Committee is preparing a series of circulars dealing with tho respective local industries, and showing that if people made a practice of purchasing locally manufactured;,goods the population of the. city would increase in a few. years-to 150,000. The. encouragement of local industries is the main object of the exhibition. Many competitions will be provided, as well as entertainments. The last-named will include tiio screening, three nights weekly, of specially taken kinematograph films of local industries and of Scenery'’ of Canterbury. In order that the school children may reap the full educational benefit of the exhibition, they will bo admitted tree on certain days.'’ The funds for the preliminary expenses connected with tho exhibition have been provided by unions affiliated to the Trades Council, and the Finance Committee will he in the happy position not to require to make a special appeal for funds. Tho present indications point to the exhibition opening free from liabilities.
