After suffering much tins session from chattering of members and lady spectators between 7.30 and 9.30 in me House of Representatives, the press, gallery decided to-night to protest in an unmistakable manner, dust before 3 o’clock, wnen mulfled baritones ot legislators made a discordant buzz with suppressed soprano tones or tne ladies, me members of the gallery filed out of the room as the House was in committee on the Estimates. The Hansard men were not taking political eloquence, which, tncreioro, was dissipated in the desert air. • An official message was sent to Mr, Colvin, Chairman of Committees, explaining that as the pressmen could not undertake to report accurately amid the din of many voices they would not make the attempt till order " - as restored. The press orderly was sent into the gallery uith a commission to listen tor any public pronouncement. When the messenger brought information that Mr. Colvin had asked members and ladies to discontinue tlieii conversation, the press gallery staff .-etuinc-l to work alter a cessation of nearly half an hour. i'Jio House was \ cry decorous after tnis incident.
