JOHNSON-WELLS FIGHT.
Mil CHURCHILL INTERVENES. THE CONTEST ILLEGAL. (Received 26, 12.55 p.m.) London, September 25. Mr Churchill, after full inquiry, and taking the best advice, has decided that the Johnson-Wells contest is illegal, and unless voluntarily abandoned steps will bo taken to prevent it. He implies that if necessary, a summons will be obtained witli a view of getting the promoter bound bver'iidt 1 to cause a breach of the peace. The promoter will endeavour to prove that the contest is legal.
