FOOTBALL.
RAILWAY v. POST OFFICE. The following will represent the Railway football team in a friendly match with the Post Office next Monday (Dominion Day), at Victoria Park, at 3.30 p.m.t —Messrs. Morrison, Bamford, Whittington, Roach, Thompson, Lythberg, Symons, Malcolm, Brown,' Kilpatrick, Campbell, Haxton, Horan, Ebbott, Brydon. NORTHERN UNION GAME. MATCH ABANDONED. A match under Northern Union rules was set down to be played on Victoria Park yesterday afternoon between a Taranaki team and a team of Maoris, but owing to the non-ap-pearance of the Maoris, the match had to bo abandoned. The officials of the Taranaki League are unable to explain the action, of tho Maoris, as letters and telegrams received up to Tuesday night indicated that they fully intended to make the trip. In fact, the secretary (Mr. T. P. Smith) received a telegram on Tuesday stating definitely that the Maoris would arrive in Stratford by Wednesday evening’s express. The Taranaki Garrison Band had been engaged to play at the match, but when the officials learned yesterday morning that the Maoris had not arrived on Wednesday evening, the band was ordered not to travel. Tho local League had incurred considerable expanse in connection with tho match, and feel somewhat sore over the Maoris’ action.
