FOOTBALL.

CANTERBURY BEATS SOUTHLAND. (Per Press Association.) Invercargill, September 20. The nineteenth interprovincial match, Southland v. Canterbury, played to-day, ended in a win for the visitors by 12 points to 9. Southland were favourites, but the forwards were not up to expectations, and the backs tackled indifferently. Canterbury’s line-kicking was of great profit to the visitors. Canterbury got to the end of the first spell with a load of nine to three. Southland woke up a bit in the second half and equalised matters. Then Canterbury attacked strongly and scored, and by good linekicking held Southland at hay till no-side was called. Canterbury, on the whole, had the bettor ol the game and deserved the win.
