RECENT OPERATIONS. Tho follow ip." repent from the ex?entire commit too was presented at tiie meeting of the general committee of the A. and P. Association on Saturday : We beg to report that since our last mooting, held on duiio 17th, wo tie.vo met on cloven occasions in the secretary's .office. Ivir Rowland, our caretaker, lias been kept busy with the following works: Laying pipes in drain through air James’s property: erecting five chains of now fence between Ur ,1 nines's property and the showgroundserecting now Iw.ces round creek noy.r the pig pons; eroding new fence from entrance race to Mr Hogget’s property; also fencing across ploughed paddock (making a total of fencing done of about 28 chains); trimming up barberry hedge between the house and tho showgrounds ; digging drain about live chains across ploughed paddock at back of horse boxes; levelling ground ,yound horse boxes; and cutting a hundred blocks for same. He has since been kept busy erecting the horse and bull boxes, wnicli we have pleasure in stating arc now nearing completion. r J hey have all boon boarded in and the iron is now on the roof. We have sown down o’ acres of tho lower portion of the showground in grass and oats, and also removed
a large quantity of earth from behind the grandstand and used same to level ground near the horse boxes, for which purpose the scoop was used. VYc expect to have the portion of land lying between the oval and the horse boxes sown down permanently in the course of a few days. Wo have pleasure in reporting that in Canvassing the town for special prizes and also amongst the farmers they have met with a ready response, the total sum collected to date being somewhere in the neighbourhood of £260; and we have every reason to believe that upwards of £3OO will l)o subscribed before the list loses. The secretary canvassed the town with a view to getting advertisements for the schedule and was successful in collecting a total amount of £22 10s, which will go a very long way towarlds the cost of printing the schedules. A number of football matches have been played bn our oval, the revenue therefrom being £ls. ■ Players are delighted with the playing ground and also Lite convenience of the grandstand. The schedule committee arc very busy with the schedule and expect to have it in the hands of the printers early next- week. On© of the paddocks has been closed down for hay. In conclusion we would ask members vho have not yet paid their subscriptions to do so as soon as convenient. Toe meeting adopted the report.
