DAMMING THE MISSISSIPPI.

Work is being prosecuted on the great, dam, seven-eights of a mile long, across the Mississippi ! at Keokuk, lowa. The structure 'will' rise 32ft above the river bed, andi along ’its length will be 119 flood gates 30ft wide and lift high. At the end of the dam will be the lock gates and a huge power-house 1400 ft long and 123 ft wide, in which will be mounted 30 hydraulic electric pou’er generating units. The initial installation of 120. 000 horse-power is to be completed on July 1, 1913.
