S TRATFORD-ONGARUE LINE.
A deputation of residents of the Pio, near Te Kuiti, waited upon the Minister for Public Works (the Hon. R. McKenzie) yesterday to ask for a deviation of the Stratford-Ougarue line from its present route into tho Waitewherua Valley. The deputation did not ask the Minister to agree to the deviation out of hand, but merely that a commission be set up to consider the matter. The Minister said that the line was authorised from Stratford to Ongaruc, and whatever his opinion on the deputation’s opinion, no good object could lie served by setting up a commission. Men were now, and bad been'for some time, working ( from the Ongaruo end, so that the might bo regarded as settled. He was satisfied, however, that a branch line would be considered in the future to go the way of the proposed deviation. Mr. W. T. Jennings, , who introduced the deputation, informed Hie members of it that ho would assist them in making proper lepresentations when the Prime Minister set up tho proposed commission -o deal with lines to lie constructed in the ‘‘uLmc. —“Dominion.”
