MR. MEEHAN’S ACCIDENT.
The Sydney “Sun” gives the following particulars of the accident which happened to Mr. J. C. Meehan, member for the Darling:— Half an hour after the Legislative Assembly adjourned on the morning of July 25th, Air. Meehan was walking down the now staircase at Parliament House, when lie met Mr. Robinson, chief of the “Hansard” staff, going up. They met at the top of the first flight of stairs, and Mr. Meehan, who was on the railig side, stepped close to the balusters to allow Mr. Robinson to pass. The rail is only 2ft Gin in height, and Mr. Meehan fell over it turning a somersault as he did so. His heels struck the wall of the passage below, knocking off some of the plaster. On the floor, just underneath, was a small wooden seat of the schoolform variety, and Mr. Meehan fell across it, breaking it—and, what is infinitely more disastrous, breaking himself up very badly. The unfortunate man made no movement whatever, and it was at first thought that ho was dead. But the members and attendants, who quickly gathered round him, found that he was still breathing. It was, of course, plainly evident that lie was badly hurt, and no time was lost in having him conveyed by the Civil Ambulance to the Sydney Hospital. Dr. Nash, as the result of a preliminary examination, found that Mr Meehan was suffering from a fractured pelvis and concussion of the brain. It is possible that there' may be other injuries.
