CARPENTERS’ AWARD.
(Per Press Association.) Wanganui, Septctmher 13. Mr P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, presided over meetings of. the Conciliation Council held yesterday and to-day, and which has now arrived at an agreement, in regard to tlie conditions, Wages, etc., of the carpenters in ’ the Wanganui district. A, complete agreement was arrived at on all points. Ordinary building carpenters, 44 hours Weekly, Is 4)d per hour; those engaged in factories',' 46 hours weekly, Is 4d per hour; existing conditions will be-maintained in all other matters, except that a preference clause has been inserted similar' to' the recent Wellington, carpenters’ award. With a view to, arriving at a Dominion award,, similar cases have boon fixed for hearing at Palmerston North qnd Mpstortoa. The agreestand* for two years unless a. Dominion agreement is arrived at,when the local agreement lapses. The assessors, for the men express themselves as highly .pleased at the treatment they received at the hands of the employers’ representatives in the matter.
