THURSDAY’S BIG MATCH. Some comment has taken place regarding the charge of, two shillings being made for the match. Interviewed on the question, Mr. P. Skoglund, secretary of the Taranaki Rugby ■Union,',' said tnc charge was merely being made to enable the Union to wipe off its, liabilities. Although, the ■year had , been commenced with a credit balance of £IOB, the debit balance was .now £IOO. In the past tho largest amount received in gate-money by .the Union with a clnirge ior admission of;one shilling had been £l4O. It had to bo remembered, further,, that in Now Plymouth there wore no grandstand receipts,' which made the position, different to that, in other centres. Some people had asked wTiy the match was- being played in New Plymouth if it was not to secure a bigger- gate,, but eloquent testimony- on tlie question was supplied by the fact that while on a beautiful day in New Plymouth only £OO was taken for the match Taranaki v. North Island, £7O was taken in Stratford on a .wet day fc r the match Taranaki v. Maoris. r lo his mind it was only the New Plymouth people who were objecting, ’liie country people seemed to bo with tho Union in tiie matter, although tho majority of them would be under less expense and would lose less time if the mutch was played in Stratford. Some complaint is made by the people living on the Toko railway that they'will be unable to see the match. The., Rugby Union applied for a special train, blit could not sec their way to guarantee the amount asked for by tiie Railway Department. • 7 .
