The not overseas immigration to New South Wales last year was 18,198, the largest for thirty-five years. Seven thousand, five hundred assisted immigrants came from Great Britain. The discrepancy between males and females is increasing. There are now 116 males for every 100 females. BOUNDARY DISPUTE. Adelaide, September 8. The Government is appealing to the Privy Council against tlie verdict in favour of Victoria in the disputed boundary case. CANEFIELD FIRE. Brisbane, September 8. There is a disastrous fire in the cane fields at Mossqian. Thousands of Hffis of cane have been destroyed. The fire was caused by sparks from an engine. UNFORTUNATE FATALITY. Hobart, September 8. A seven-year-old boy, while playing with a' gun, accidentally shot his father dead. LIQUOR TRAFFIC. Melbourne, September 8. The Alliance Conference states that from 18-12—when the records were started—to 1909, the sum of £276,706,878 has been spent in alcohol in Victoria. BILLIARDS. Melbourne, September 8.
