A NATIVE’S TROUBLES.
FOR THEFT,
At the Magistrate’s Court this morning, before Mr. W. G v Konrick, S.M., William Renata was charged with having on July 15th, at Wfiangamomona, stolon a silver watch valued at £5, a brief bag valued at 12s fid, and a pair of trousers, valued at iij, the property of Bert Prior. Accused pleaded guilty. i Sergeant McNcely said accused had boon employed by Mr. Prior, for about two weeks, and when he left ho took the articles mentioned with him. He had been arrested at Raetihi, whore he was serving a for false pretences. The watch and the bag had been recovered. Accused had previously been convicted of theft. A sentence of four months’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed, and accused was warned that a repetition of such offences would probably earn for him a reformatory sentence. A remand of a week was granted on the application of the police in cases in which Renata is charged with stealing a cheque from Prior, and also with forming an endorsement thereto.
