THE OPUNAKE RAILWAY.
NEW PLYMOUTH VIEWS. At the meeting of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce at New Plymouth last- night .the president referred to the proposed Opunako railway, and said that such a fertile and closely settled district would have been served by a railway line ten years ago or morel. This railway connection would be of groat assistance to the port of New Plymouth, to the town and district of Opunake, and to the stretch of country through which the railway would run. He moved: “That, taking into consideration the importance and producing power of South Taranaki, the Government be urged to place a sum on the Estimates this session for the commencement of the Opunake railway.” Mr. Penn, in seconding, said that there was some hope of the-line being authorised this session, now that the people in that district had agreed to drop the question of route and to ic:.vo the Government to place the railway whore they though it would best suit the public. The motion was carried.
