MR FOWLD’S RESIGNATION.
(To the Editor “Stratford Post.”) Sir, —The news that the Hon. Geo. Fowlds, Minister for Education, has resigned from the Ministry on account of an adverse amendment to liis Town Plianning Bill will come as a great surprise to many. It would hardly seem necessary for the hon. gentleman to have taken this extreme step, seeing that, after all, the Bill was intro- , duced as a private measure and was in no sense a Government Bill. At the same time the farming community, and, to be quite frank, the Cabinet also, are to be felicitated upon their having got rid of the one member of the Ministry who, through his single tax proclivities, , was more or less a thorn in the Prime Minister’s Administration and a red rag generally to the man on the land, and the Farmers’ Union. No doubt Mr Fowlds’ action will materially add to the popularity of the Government amongst the farming community throughout the Dominion, and wo may be sure that Sir Joseph Ward will seizb the happy chance which Dame Fortune (ever kind) has extended to him', and appoint a successor more in harmony with the feelings of our prime producers.—l am, etc., FARMER. Stratford, 6th September, 1911.
