POLITICAL.
NOTES BY THE WAY. Mr Joseph McCluggage is to speak at Toko on Monday. T'ne Hon. Geo. Fowlds, who has just, resigned after five years in the Ward Ministry, was first elected a member of the House as one of Auckland’s three representatives on December 6th, 1899. Ho has visited Strati ora, in his official capacity, on tv\o or three occasions, and quite recently spoke in the Town Hall. A message from Wellington states that in reply to a question put by Mr Hine, Member for Stratford, to the Minister of Public Works, the latter again denied • any knowledge of dissatisfaction amongst, the workmen at the Whangamornona tunnel and said no information had reached him. Mr Hine considers the Minister’s reply evasive and states that the first opportunity will be taken to ventilate the matter—probably to-day. The Native Affairs Committee resumed its investigations into the charges respecting the Mokau block yesterday morning. The inquiry will probably continue until the end of next week. Both Sir John Findlay and the Hon. T. Mackenzie, when seen on Monday night, were unprepared to make any statement as to their choice of a seat to contest at the elections to a “Dominion” reporter.
