Sydney, September 4. Colonel Longfiolcl, a prominent member of the National Rule Association, is dead. METHODIST MINISTER DROWNED. Hobart, September 4. The Rev. Lester (Methodist) was drowned while bathing. RETURN OF MR McCOWEN. (Received 4, 10.10 a.m.) Brisbane, September 4. Mr McGowen returned in the Zoalandia. Ho declined to discuss New South Wales politics. He was most favourably impressed with what ho saw in England, but said no place on God’s earth would compare with Australia because of her freedom, sunshine and opportunities. He was shocked at what he saw in the United States and Canada. They were sowing the seeds of a whirlwind by allowing themselves to become the dumping ground for the scum of the earth. Australia was wiser than her generation, and was keeping the race pure.
