THE MANAWATU SEAT. (Per Press Association } Palmerston North, Scot. 3. A meeting of the Liberal Party, representing the Liberal Party in different portions of the Manawatu electorate, as newly constituted, was convened at the instance of Mr. John Stevens, late M.P. for Manawatu (and earlier for Rangitikei), and held at Marten yesterday. Mr. Edward Read presided. 'The object was to select a candidate in the Liberal interest for the forthcoming election. Mr. John Stevens, who contested Manawatu, and Mr. William Mol dr inn, of Hnnterville, who contested Rangitikei byelection, were proposed. Mr. Stevens, while expressing every intention to assist at the election, asked the meeting to select Mr. Meldrnm. This was done, with hearty appreciation of Mr. Stevens’ action and his services to the Liberal cause.
