Mr Becby, replying, admitted that owing to the constitution of the House, a general election was necessary, but it must be when the new electoral rolls are prepared, and in early summer, not in the middle of winter. All the Government asked was the co-operation of members in passing a number of non-contentionous matters, getting finances on a proper basis, and completing the electoral law; then they could safely leave the matter in tire hands of electorates. The debate was adjourned. (Received 31, 10.15 a.m ' Sydney, August 31. Mr Trickctt. has been re-elected Chairman of Committees :n the Legislative Council.
