A GREAT STORM.
, SEVERAL PEOPLE KILLED. New York, August 29. A groat storm is raging in the Southern States. The water on the Charlton sea front is higher than for twenty years. The tram service fs idle, and the streets are impassable, owing to uprooted trees. People on the Isle of Pines and Sullivan’s Island were warned, so as to enable them to escape, but it' is. reported that many were left belli nip. £ A schooner was thrown ashore at Charlton, but little damage was done to shipping. Five people were killed. The velocity of the wind wrecked the wind guage. Low-lying sections of the city were inundated, and people were removed in boats. A railway engineer was ki.icd in t/.e yardmasters office. Hying timbers crashed in the windows, meaning j..s neck.
