ALLEGED SLANDER.

OVER MONEY TRANSACTIONS. (Per Press Association.) Palmerston North, August 29. The Supremo Court, the Chief Justice presiding, was occupied to-day with the slander case C. A. W Monckton v. Byron Brown, for £1250 damages. A jury of twelve was empanelled. Counsel for plaintiff, Mr. Morison, in opening, said plaintiff was a sheepfarmer and defendant a storekeeper, both of the Otaki district. The alleged slander, which affected plaintiff’s personal credit, was in respect of transactions in promissory notes. Plaintiff had endorsed the note of an employee (Strawbridge), payable to defendant,.*ad after various renewals it had been dishonoured, notice of dishonour arriving during plaintiff’s absence. Counsel alleged that slanders wore uttered in connection with the transactions to various persons during the period from December to June last.
