CARDIFF DAIRY COMPANY.
ANNUAL MEETING
The twentieth annual of shareholders of the Cardiff Dairy Factory Company was held in the Cardiff Schoolroom last night. About sixty shareholders were present, and the chair was occupied by Mr. W. Richards, chairman of directors. Report and Balance-Shoot.
The Chairman, speaking to the report and balance-sheet, said shareholders should not blame tho directors altogether for tho mistake made in tho previous season, because a good deal of agitation had taken place outside the directorate in reference to the course adopted. However, both in butter and cheese, they had done fairly well. There had been comment on the amount of the overdraft, but it had to he remembered that of the to-tal-amount £345 had been paid in cash to the Box Co. for shares, and on this the company were receiving interest. The balance on tho working account (343) would be sufficient to pay shareholders a further farthing. He would advise making the payment, but it was for the meeting to decide on that point. The total payment for the season would have been greater but for the fact that £3BO had had to be paid for repairs ami renewals. The past season had been a trying one. First the Eltham Borough bothered them about the water supply, then there was the agitation regarding butter and cheese, and lastly their Waingongoro friends had loft thorn. Tho prospects for the coming season, however, were bright. He concluded by moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. In answer to a shareholder tho Chairman said he had attended a meeting in New Plymouth on Saturday regarding the freezing works, at which it was decided that all shares must be paid for in cash, failing which no interest would bo paid. After a short discussion tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. The Season’s Surplus. It was decided that the credit balance on the season’s operations bo divided among shareholders. The Chairman said shareholders would get the money when tho directors got it. A shareholder: Will we get it by next month ? The Secretary (Mr T. H. Penn) said uo thought not. A shareholder: Oh, well, it will •omc in very well as a Christmas box. Mr. Penn explained that one of the .company’s shipments had only just boon sold. It had been held up in London by the strike, but this was a mod thing, for the company, because 'cheese was at 60s 6d when tho shipment arrived, and had risen to 60s fficn it was sold. The Annual Meeting. Mr. Murdock moved that the annual nesting be held on the last Monday !a July, and in the daytime. He said t was not convenient for shareholdrs to turn up at night, and the season was busy at the end of August. Tho Chairman said if the meeting was held in tho daytime they would not he able to use the schoolroom, and the room at the factory would not ac•ommodate very many. * Mr. Penn said that the earlier the meeting was held the more the returns had to be calculated. Even as matters were he had had to approximate the value of five shipments. On a show of hands the motion was lost by a large majority. Butter or Cheese. It was decided to recommend the directors to start making cheese as early as possible. Election of Directors. Messrs. Richards, Murdoch, Rogers, David and Brunton offered themselves for election as directors, the three first-named being elected. Election of Auditor. Mr. P. F. Ralfe notified that he would not seek re-election as auditor, and Mr. A. Coleman was elected to tho position. On the motion of the Chairman a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Ralfo for his valuable services to the company. Chairman’s Honorarium. It was decided that the usual honorarium bo voted to the Chairman of Directors. Payment of Directors. The question of payment of directors was discussed shortly, and it was proposed that 6s bo paid for each monthly meeting, but when a vote was taken nobody voted in favour of tho proposition. A show of bands, however, was called for, when the motion was carried by eight votes to two. Thanks to tho Staff. A hearty vote of thanks was parsed to the manager and the company’s employees for their services during the past year.
