FOOTBALL.
INTER-SCHOOL TOURNAMENT.
At New Plymouth yesterday the triangular 'football contest between teams representing Napier, Palmerston, and New Plymouth was brought to a close. New Plymouth beating Napier by 32 to 8, for which they hold the triangular shield, and the Poison banner. The shield was first competed for in 1909, when Napier won, and in 1910 it was won by Palmerston. Yesterday evening the visiting teams were entertained at a ball by old boys and girls of the New Plymouth High School. The visitors left for their homes by this morning’s mail train. NORTHERN UNION GAME. NELSON v. TARANAKI. The Nelson v. Taranaki match, which will take place at Eltham on Thursday, is creating a lot of interest in South Taranaki, it being the first game to be played in that part of the province. The following Js the _ Nelson team: —Full-back, at. Berkley; three-quarters, C. Nixon, P. Page, D. Foucholle; five-eighths, C. Sedoman, J. James; half, G. Stapp (captain); forwards, Peary (2), Hunnigan, Sparrow, Mason, Mauson. Mr. P. Skoglund lias received a telegram from Mr. J. McLeod, manager of the Taranaki touring team; stating that the team arrived safely in Invercargill on Monday night. Some members of the team were feeling somewhat sore as a result of the hard ground played on in Wellington.
