Archbishop Kelly has been installed as head of the Roman Catholic Church )f New South Wales. Ted Kalman, the well-known comedian, has committed suicide.
THE COMET. Perth, August 28. The comet recently observed is approximately thirty million miles distant, and is travelling rapidly towards the south-west.
RAIN WANTED. Perth, August 23. The absence of rain in ' the agricultural centres of Westralia is causing serious concern. BLED TO DEATH. (Received 28, 10.10 a.m.) Melbourne, August 28. A child bled to death through cutting its thumb. Although early attended by a doctor, he was unable to staunch the blood, as it woidd not coagulate, this being a family peculiarity, other relatives having died in a similar fashion. MAWSON’S EXPEDITION. Adelaide, August 28. Dr. Mawson, in an interview, declared that it was not his intention to attempt to reach the South Pole. The object of the expedition was to open up the unknown coastline south of Australia. An aeroplane would be used for reconnoitring. NORTH-WEST AUSTRALIA.Perth, August 28. Members of the Swedish scientific expedition describe north-west Australians the most interesting country in the world from a scientific standpoint. There are many natives of distinct Semitic cast of features; they were decidedly cannibalistic. TRAIN WRECKERS. Brisbane, August 28. A serious attempt was made to wreck the train at Million. Large boulders were placed on the line, but they were discovered before the train approached.
