The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER. FRIDAY, AUGUST 25, 1911. THE SHOW GROUNDS.

Great improvements arc being effected on the Stratford A. and P. Association’s grounds, and when the sheds for the extra accommodation of stock, now in course of erection, are finished, and the additional area that is being levelled and grassed is out of hand, considerably more value will bo given to the property for show and t/ciior purposes. When the property was acquired, it was in a sense a wilderness; but the practical knowledge and assistance rendered by the executive soon made an unsightly spot pleasant to the eye, and at the same time created a valuable asset for future generations. As a sports ground it has no equal in those parts, at any rate; and the fact that it is now being used for Taranaki rep. football matches proves that it is centrally situated, as well as having every convenience for the accommodation of a large concourse of people. The New Plymouth Ivecreation ground is no doubt the best spot in Taranaki for witnessing any game going forward on the sports ground ; but with the additional grand-stand, proposed to ho erected at no distant date, together with the higher ground around the play field, there will be very little, if any, difficulty in thousands watching a game on the Stratford A., and P. grounds with the greatest base. Although much has been done in a short time, the property is capable of many more improvements, and if wonders have been accomplished so far, greater achievements may bo looked for in the future. It was Keats who said: “A thing of bounty is a joy forever,” and if he had not tire Stratford A. and P. Show grounds in view when lie penned those words, lie at all events meant that they should apply and he acted upon.
