COUNTIES' CONFERENCE.
O (Per Press Association.) Wellington, August 22. The Counties’ Conference, which opened to-day (Mr dull, of Waipawa, presiding), discussed a number of remits referring to the payment of Clovernment grants. It. was urged that the money should bo paid over as soon as the votes were passed by Parliament, in order that work might bo carried out at the proper time of tiio year. Several .delegates complained that the system of paying out grants in driblets meant a waste of from 25 to .'id per cent in clerical expenses, Eventually the whole question was referred to a committee to report to conference.
