NORTH AUCKLAND WINE. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, August. 19. A meeting of the Nmth Auckland vine growers war held here tins morning to protest against the remarks made by the deputation to the • Minister of Justice, who alleged that the wine produced in North Auckland was doctored, and Urn business was one of the most pernicious tilings in connection with tiie sale of liquor-in New Zealand.

Mr John Villa, who presided, said, like most other Austrian manufacturer:; of wine, lie was induced twelve years ago to start by Professor ivirk, a Government officer of high standing. He invested all his savings in a vineyard. Now, when he and others were beginning to see the imils of their labours, they were harassed and accused of things obviously untrue. Because a section or politcal agtators found fault with some Austrians, they tried to cast a stigma over every viticulturist iu the north.

Another speaker agreed that the sale of bad wine should be stopped, but objected to the proposal that wine should only be sold in the district where manufactured, because there would he uo chance of disposing of wine unless by hawking. It was resolved to call a general meeting of vine growers with a view of forming an association, to draft a Bill for presentation to Parliament embodying the necessary facilities for the betterment of the industry, also to ask the Government Analyst to analyse all wine in cellars in the northern district.

CHEESE PROSPECTS. (Per Press . Association ? . Dunedin, August 19. Mr. Scott, secretary- of the South Island Dairy Association, reports that choose buyers are exceptionally kooky and that business could now bo done at sixpence f.o.b. The effects of the dry near tier in the Northern H.emirpiiore, ooeai to justify the expectation' of high prices-—more, probably, than, lias ever before been the ease—and ho sees no reason to l>c in a hurry to sell, seeing that the, first shipment of South Island cheese will not leave tiie Dominion till November.
