The press generally comment on the loss to Australian Catholics, and refer to Cardinal Moran’s great efforts to secure Home Rule. (Received 18, 9.25 a.m.) Sydney, August 18. The late Cardinal Moran is lying in state at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Thousands viewed the remains yesterday. A special Gazette notice refers to the public loss sustained through the death of Cardinal Moran, and directs that flags,shall be half-masted at. the Government Buildings. The messages of sympathy include Archbishop Redmond, the Bishops of Auckland and Dunedin,a number ofCatholic bodies in Now Zealand, and two from Rome—one from the Vatican. The other reads; “The Irish College mourns a guide, benefactor, and friend.” .»
