AUSTRALIAN POLITICS.
N.S.W. ELECTIONS. Sydney, August 16. Mr Perry (Liberal) was elected for Liverpool Plains by a majority of 3. A recount is certain. Contrary to expectations, tho polling in each electorate was slightly lower than at the general election, but altogether the Liberals gained over 1100 votes. The last return was anxiously waited. Previous to its receipt the Liberals led by 36. It was known that it was a labour strongbold. Twenty-five per cent, of the electors, however, did not vote. The result now is that tho Ministerialists have the same representation as the combined Liberals and Independents. It is probable that some Liberals will support tho Government pending the re-distribution of seats and the passing of Supply.
Mr Holman stated officially that Mr Willis (Liberal) has consented to allow himself to bo nominated for tbo Speakership. He added that the Government realises it is impotent, to deal with contentions matter. Parliament will hold a short session, devoted to preparing for an inevitable appeal to the country at. the earliest practicable date.
