HUIROA NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) A progressive euchre party and dance Avas held in tho Huiroa Cheese Factory on Thursday evening, August 10th in aid of the Mbhakau Road school prize fund, and was a pronounced success both financially and socially. Considering the conditions of the Aveather, tho people turned out in good numbers, giving those interested such encouragement as to induce them to hold another in three Aveeks’ time. Cards commenced about 8 p.m. and concluded about TO p.m. Mr H. Kidd, in a feAV suitable Avords, then presented prizes to the Avinners, Mrs Main securing first honours for the ladies, and Mr S. White the gents. Special prizes Avere given for the booby prizes, but after due consideration I Avill not publish the names of the Avinners,. as I am aAvaro that in their modesty they Avould not like their proAvess emblazoned through the country. Mesdames Jones, Kidd, and Stockloy, and the Misses Hall and Watkins then cheered bbth Avinners and losers by distributing refreshments, all playing this game to advantage. After supper tho room Avas cleared for dancing, which Avas kept up till the early hours. The music Avas supplied by Mr and Mrs A. J. Stockloy, Avith violin and piano respectively, and as everyone avlio has danced to their music can vouch for, it could not have been improved upon. Previous to the last dance, Mr Jonas proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the musicians (their services being gratuitous), for the splendid music provided, and echoed the opinion of all present, the vote being loudly applauded. Mr S. White made an efficient M.C., thus all contributing by thoroughness to make tho evening a success.
