LAND BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. Tho ordinary monthly meeting of tho Taranaki Land Board was held yesterday. Present: Tho Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr. W. Armstrong (in tho chair), Messrs. J. Heslop, J. Ratten bury, J. McCluggage, and W. L., Newman. An Appeal. Tho Board went into committee to deal with the appeal of Joshua Harris against the forfeiture of . his interest in section J, block Jo, Ohura. Ho waited on tho Board wk'.i M>u G . Grey, and was examined on oath. Tho Board also heard Mr. Fleming ('Marshall and" Hutton), and eventually decided to confirm the forfeiture. Tlio Board’s decision was announced when it resumed in open meeting. Transfers. Transfers wore approved as under:—Win. Blenncrhassott to H. C. S. Hughes, sections 11 and 17, Block G, Kapara; Levi Burn to W. A. Hurley, sections 12 and IG, block G, Kapara ; L. F. D. Smith to H. J. Wilkinson, section 9, block 1-1, Waro, and section 10, block 9, Waro; Lowe and Bisholl to S. Lowe, section 5, block 13, Upper Waitara; G. and A. Brough to Arthur Brough, section 10, block 3, Aria (subject to ranger’s report); H. D. O’Connell to Geoffrey Pybus, sections 19 and 7, blocks 8 and 9, Mimi (subject to ranger’s report); Graven and Mcßae to 1). W. Mcßae and H. W. Howie, section 2, block 1, Ohnra; H. E. Plight to Emma Hight, section 71, block 10, Pouatu; S. Ross to W. J. Ross, section 18, block 5, Upper Waitara; W. A. F. and H. C. Zimmerman to C. McPhcc, section 8, block 15, Upper Waitara ; N. B. Fryday to Alien Castle, section 7, block 13, Ohura (subject to improvements being brought up to date). The application of C. F. A. Zimmerman to transfer to Julius Jacobsen, 28, block 16, Huiroa, was refused. Tho following applications wore referred to the, ranger for report:—R. H.; Allen to Paul Collier, section 1, block 1, Ngatimaru; C. E. H. Allen to Paul CoTlyer, section 30, block 2, Ngatimaru; E. Julian to John Whitehead, section 37, block 11, Waitara. A Disputed Point.
Mr W. G. Malone waited on the Board with reference to an application -by R. U. Harden to transfer an undivided interest in section 9, block 14, Mahoe, under which payment of rent conceded under section 127 of the Land Act, 1908, had been demanded. He submitted that as only a half interest of the section is being transferred the Act is silent on the point ,and that if it does apply only half the amount should be demanded. —The Board decided to obtain a legal opinion on the subject. Sub-Leases. Applications to sub-lease were dealt with as follmvs:—A. E. Sutton to J. S. Brough, section 2, block 12, Mimi —approved, subject to the Commissioner being satisfied with the subdivision, applicant to supply plan at his own expense. James Rooney to William Phillips, sections 25 to 26, block 9, Ngatimaru—approved. W. F. L. Jenkinson to J. and J. J. Enabling, part section 31, block 11, Ngaere—approved, subject to the Commissioner being satisfied with the sub-division, applicant to supply plan at his own expense. A month’s extension was granted in which to register’ sub-lease C. A. E. Hodgkinson to J. B. Norris, section 11, block 2, Omona, and section 7, block 7, Omona. in'iU< |lmproved;;Farm Settlers. The following improved farm settlors applied for their leases: —F. J. Hallmond, section 5, block 5, Totoro; Wm. Kane, section 4, block 14, OhiiraAntony Christensen, section .11, block 10, Ohura; John Bones, section 3, block 3, Totoro; P. Coogan, section 16, block 9, Ohura.—The leases will be issued. General.
M. V. Egan applied for the title of section 5, block 10,. Opaku, to issue.—Acceded to.
E. F. Huntrell’s application _ for freehold of section 7, block 2, Mahoe, was acceded.to.
J. C. Hafre appealed against forfeiture of sections 6 and 7, block 11, Pouatu. A statement of improve-, meets effected was submitted.—Forfeiture rescinded, subject to ranger’s report. The application of the Tatu Settlers’ dip and saloyards was considered, and the Board could not see its way to recommend the Minister to grant the necessary land without compensation. The Commissioner submitted the request of the Tatau Settlors’ Association for a cemetery at Tatu.—Three acres of the village reserve will bo set aside for the purpose. Wood Bros., lessees of section 26, block 15, Aria, -applied for 180 acres of unsurvey land in block 10, Aria.— Application to be advertised in terms of the Act.
C. E. Goodiim applied for a lease of section 11, block 6,- town of Huiroa.—Referred to Ranger for :eport. J. Kasper’s application for lease of section 12, block 9, town of Mangaroa, was declined.—“ News.”
