BIENNIAL CONFERENCE. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, August 15. The biennial conference of Agricultural and Pastoral Societies opened this morning, the Governor opening the proceedings. His Excellency said he was in fullest rympitliv with the work of agricultural societies, and very valuable results could be obtained from the employment of scientific experts, combined with practical experience of agriculturists.Ho described the working of the Central Chamber of Agriculture at Homo, and said what, most impressed him about that institution was the fact that it had always kept itself distinct as an organisation from party political controversy. It was ah impartial medium, and could acquire prompt response from the Government. His Excellency concluded with warm tributes to the work of the agricultural societies in New .Zealand and to tlio reception accorded him jn different parts of the country. “Nothing,” lie said, “has made me feel more as if I were at Home among my old friends than those occasions when I have been surrounded by a. large group of kindly, genial and welcoming farmers in New Zealand.”
