ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
(Per Press Association.) Napier, August 10. A married woman- named Fanny
Harris, aged 54, the wife of Thomas Harris, a lineman, was found dead in a quarry at the rear of her residence early this morning. The deceased had / suffered from ill-health for a considerable time and last week attempted suicide hv drinking a solution of match heads. Invercargill, August 10. A Syrian hawker named Yusif Suffra, aged 60, fell cr jumped from a train at Makarowa last night, and sustained a fracture of the skull and injuries resulting in Ins death in the hospital to-day. Auckland, August 10. A very serious accident occurred at To Awamutu yesterday. Mr W. J. Ranby,a 'farther of Ohaupo, was driving in a light .trap between To Awamutu and'Kawa, when the horse became unmanageable, arid kicked the front hoard away, striking Ranhy on the face. Both eyeballs were smashed, the bridge of his nose completely broken, and his face, much bruised. It was 'found necessary to remove the right eye, and to stitch, the left, and the Injuries to the latter are so serious 5 that it is feared it will also have to he removed. In any case the injured man will he totally blind. Auckland, August 11. Mrs. Julia Kelly, an old-age pensioner, 70 years of age, was burned to death in a, fire at her six-roomed house in Upper Queen Street, which was occupied by her son, Andrew Kelly. Neighbours noticed the smell of fire during the night, hut failed to locate the fire. In the early morning smoke was issuing from the roof of Kelly’s house, and the neighbours found the place ablaze. They dragged Andrew Kelly out of heel. When the brigade arrived they.found Mrs. Kel-. jy on the floor Of her bedroom, dead. The hocjy. was-, badly burned. Apparently tlm fire originated in the room she slept in. The police have arrested Andrew Kelly on a charge of drunkenness.
