ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
(Per Press Association.) Napier, August 10. A married woman named Fanny Harris, aged 54, tne wife of Thomas Harris, a lineman, was found dead in a quarry at the rear of her residence early this morning. The deceased had suffered from ill-health for a considerable time and last week attempted suicide by drinking a solution of match heads. Invercargill, August 10. A Syrian hawker named i’usif Suftia, aged 60, fell or jumped from a train at Makarewa last night, and sustained a fracture of the skull and injuries resulting in his death in the hospital to-day. Auckland, August 10. A very serious accident occurred at Te Awamutu yesterday. Mi- W. J. Ranby, a farmer of Ohaupo, was driving in a light tinp between ’!’e Awarnutii and Kiuva, when the horse hecamo unmanageable, and kicked the front board away, striking Ranby on tire face. Both eyeballs were smashed, the bridge of his nose completely broken, and bis face much bruised. It was found necessary to remove the right oye, and to stitch the left, and the injuries to the latter are so serious that it is feared it will also have to bo removed. In any case the injured man will be totally .blind. Auckland, August 11. Mrs. Julia Kelly, an old-age pensioner, 70 years of age, was burned to death in a fire at her six-roomod house in Upper Queen Street, which was occupied by her son, Andrew Kelly. Neighbours noticed the smell of fire during the night, but failed to locate the fire. In the early morning smoke was issuing from the roof of Kelly’s house, and the neighbours found the place ablaze. They dragged Andrew Kelly out of bed. When the brigade arrived they found Mrs. Kelly on the floor of her bedroom, dead. The body was badly- burned. Apparently the fire originated in Ihe room she slept in. The police have arrested Andrew Kelly on a charge of drunkenness#
