DEATH OF ELSIE HOLLAND

(-Per Press Association.) Auckland, August 9

The charges against Mrs. Jane Burns Hartley, Mi's. Mary Hassell, Mrs. Charlotte Campbell, and James Edward O’Shaughnessy, of being accessories after the fact of murder in connection with the death of tho young woman, Elsie Alexandra Holland ,°o a the night of Juno 14, at tho homo cf Mrs. Martha O’ShaugJlucsSy at First Avenue, Kingsland, came on before Mr. Frazer, S.M., to-day. Mr.. Mays, in opening the case for the Crown, said that the four accused were charged under section 92 of the Crimes Act. The parts played by each of the four accused were various. Tho most important section of evidence would ho that of the two witnesses to whom Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Hassell made certain statements on tho Sunday after Miss Holland died. It would seem clear from this evidence that Mis. Hassell was _ responsible for the placing of the poison in the deceased’s mouth, either after death or so shortly before death that deceased could not swallow it. After evidence similar to that given against Mrs. O’Shaughnessy a few davs ago, tho hearing of the case was adjourned till to-morrow.
