THE LIGHTING QUESTION.
(To the Editor ‘StTatford Post.”) Sir,—Tiie misstatements made by ‘‘Civis” are so obvious to anyone having a knowledge of the question under discussion that no reply is -ailed tor, and I will leave him with the .ema; k that abuse is not argument. I lie Council may not agree to publication of the rcpoi t, out there is me thing certain, and that is the alepayers will never agree to (be oppression of the report; it must be produced sooner or Inter. The ratepayers are not in the mood for sanctioning a loan of any magnitude, and unless the amount arrived at to bo paid for the Company’s undertaking is reasonable, there is little chance >1 it being carried at the poll. For tins reason there is a grave danger if the present negotiations from the nature of them landing tins Boron Hi in a bill of costs ior a considerable .•mount in arbitrators’ fees. Whether the opposition against the methods employed by the Council in the negotiations is right or wrong, wjll be •proved later, and 1 am firmly of opinion that tiie very best thanks of the ratepayers will be due to the opposition when the whole business is done with. I will not trouble yagain, -dr. Editor, and i thank you for allowing, mo to take up so much of your valuable space.—l am, etc., „ RATEPAYER. Stratford, 9th August, 1911.
