Tho French Estimates for 1912 show an increase of £7,000,000 sterling as compared with 1911. THE STEEL TRUST. Now York, August 5. Charles Schwab, examined by the Steel Trust Investigation Committee, declared tho trust was his own creation. He aided Picrpont Morgan and Andrew Carnegie in the early years of tho Steel Company. Ho did not attempt to curtail the output or fix prices. Ho simply aided to develop tho American stool industry. (Received 7, 8.5 a.m.) New York, August 6. Mr Roosevelt, examined at the Steel Trust, enquiry, stated that he consented, as President, to allow the absorption of the Tennessee Coal and Iron Company in 1907, and thereby averted a national financial panic. No other course was open. It restored public confidence. NAPHTHA SPOUT ON FIRE. ■ St. Petersburg, August 5. A naphtha spout on the Baku oilfields caught fire. Five workmen perished. AUSTRALIAN CADETS. London, August 5. Lord Roberts, addressing tho Australian cadets, said it was a disgrace that Britain should be without a system such as Australasia possessed. It was absolutely essential that Britain should follow the dominions’ example.
