i Mr. Kerr Maxwell. Puniwhakan, has concluded negotiations for the sale of his business to Mr. W. R. Davis, Wellington, at a satisfactory figure. The now proprietor of the business takes possession on the 16th inst. The need of a brass band in Stratford is generally recognised. These willing to help in the formation of one arc offered the opportunity on Monday of doing something in the direction, as a meeting of those interested has been to be held at the Borough Jouncil Chamber on Monday evening, i'ho meeting has been called to enable those interested to meet- the Borough Council’s, Band Committee. On every hand, says the Waverlev correspondent of the Fatea “Press,” evidences are to be seen of the exceedingly mild winter that has been xperionced, and of the early spring we -re likely to enjoy. In several gardens in Wavorloy potatoes are siiowing through the ground, while apricot and peach trees are to bo seen in blossom in various places. Some affirm that to ensure a.good season more rain will yet be necessary, notwithstanding the fact that the ground has boon so often soaked of late. At the Clifton County Council meeting yesterday the chairman reported that several carriers had been written to in connection with alleged breaches of the by-laws re the width of tyres.Cp to the present, however, no replies had been received from any of them. Some discussion ensued on the subject, lloferonce was made to a rumour that i lighting fund was being raised to .contest tiie by-laws. It was resolved that the foremen be requested to report all cases of offenders against the width of tyre by-laws, and, should there lie any offenders reported, the chairman was authorised to select a case and prosecute. It was admitted by defendant that he had igrecd to purchase a bicycle from plaintiff, had paid £1 as deposit, had agreed to pay 5s pew week off the purchase money, and had returned the Idcycle after using it for three weeks
