(Applause.j lie relerred to tae excellent service rendered, in the absence of Mr. Hardy tmongh illness ,at tno last carnival by Mr. James McLeod, of New Plymouth', and by Mr. T. (J. Stanners. He also commented strongly on tlio aoscnco from the puoiic meeting of members of the puoiic outside the members of the Association. Mr E. Parrott, in seconding the motion, endorsed the remarks of the chairman regarding the poor attendance, and said it was a great pity that the public did net take a greater interest in these gatherings for the Axemen’s Association had done a great deal for Eltliam. Pie also congratulated the Association on having tlicir secretary with them once again, adding that though the secretary was absent from the carnival, still, his guiding hand was felt, and Mr. 'McLeod had fulfilled his duties very well indeed. The success of tlio carnival showed that it had been well conducted. He also congratulated the Association on its improved luiancial position. The motion was carried. Mr. Hardy acknowledged the kind remarks made about himself. Officers were elected as follows: Directors, Messrs. G. W. Taylor, T. 0., and \V r . Stanners, E. Whiting, L. lliil, J. A. Hanson, and Jrl. Woolfo; auditor, Air. E. Parrott; patron, His Ex ceileacy the Governor; vice-pre-sidents, Hon. \V. Carneross and Dr. Harrison. Mr. H. Nuttall moved that the retiring directors be granted an honorarium of two guineas. Mr. W. Gibb seconded the motion, uliieli was agreed to without discussi m. A veto of thanks was accorded Mr. T. C.
