During a fire in the Union coldstorage works in Thames Street, a fireman was overcome by ammonia fumes, and twelve wore rendered unconscious, including the Superintendent, who was seriously frozen. OBITUARY. London, August 2. ihc death of Dr. Gregory, Dean cl St. Paul’s, has occurred. THE NIOBE. Ottawa, August 2. Tho cruiser Niobe, stationed at Halifax, is in danger of sinking. The salvage steamers are unable to cope with the rising water. MISHAP TO FERRY STEAMER. New York, August 2. The ferry steamer Syracuse struck a shoal in the St. Lawrence, near Massona, and capsized , hurling seventy-five of her pr ssengers into the river. Other craft rescued all except seven. Tho bodies of four women have been recovered. A SUBSTANTIAL REWARD. Mexico City, August 2. A proclamation offering 3000 pesos in connection with the assassination of Frank Jenkins, William Jenkins, and James Dunn, English mine experts, is being circulated. The assassinations are connected with the strike at tho Eloro mines. Bombs were found in the mines. An appeal has been made to tho Government to suppress lawlessness.
