“GRAFT.”
A STRANGE STORY. (Per Press Association) Dunedin, August 2. A strange story has gained currency concerning the alleged practice in Dunedin of what is described in the United States as “graft.” Some little time ago, incidental to the changes in the system of administration, an official of an important local body retired from the position lie had boon occupying. The local body decided to vote him, on retirement, a bonus equal to six months’ salary. It appears that one member of the body concerned remarked to the official that the vote was worth a new suit to him. Tin's remark was treated as a joke, hut the official got a chock when ho received an account for £B, the cost of a suit supplied to the member. M embers of the local body concerned have been expressing their feelings very strongly, but the person implicated is no longer associated with them on this particular body. He is, however, connected with the administration of other local institutions.
