PETROLEUM.

LETTER FROM MR. J. D. HENRY

Messrs Watkins and Fox have just received .a. letter from Mr. J. D. Henry, dated London, June 16th, in which he says:—“There is no need for mo to tell you how greatly I appreciate what you and other friends did for mo while 1 was in New Zealand. It is equally unnecessary for me to say anything about the return journev. You know that I made this as quickly as possible in the interests of the business which took me out to New Zealand. A few papers mailed after I returned will have given you some hints as to what 1 think about the situation iu London. I come here to find' everyone interested in fcicign oilfield investments thoroughly downhearted. I was soon able to show my associates in colonial Oil that tlio times suit our plans in every respect, and the work I am engaged upon promises to result ip the ’ finance side of New Zealand' oil being successful directly people settle down to business after the holidays. Von may take it that we shall have a boom for New Zealand. Two things iiavo naturally pleased me; I refer to the putting up of the £2OOO by my people and the business-like way iu

which it wap decided that the chairman of tlio Taranaki Petroleum Co. should set out for London. You have my assurance that so far as Taranaki business is concerned the future.is bright, and this should,he good news for you, seeing that no foreign oil group can uiv the same with respect to projects they have had in’ hand for many months. I am iii touch with Sir Joseph Ward. Keep me well iiifoVitiod about Taranaki matters.' No one can uo tins so well as yourselves. You cannot speak too hopefully of what is being done, and the bright'prospects in store for Taranaki. Give my kindest regards to all friends.”

By the last English mail Mr A. E. Watkins received a book entitled “Russian Oilfields and the Petroleum Industry,” by John Mityakis, L.L.D, (Ath.), ivho is recognised as being one of Russia’s best-known oil experts. Several references are made to Mr J. 1). Henry in this work. r l he author states: “The oil industry all over the world, and Russia in particular, owes a groat deal to Mr. Henry, who has done much to re-establish confidence in the possibilities ol British enterprise in the Russian Empire. Mr, Henry is also recognised throughout Russia as being an autiuwty on the oil fuel. question, and his great knowledge of the oilfields ol the world, all of which he has visited, must be ■ of immense value to the British oil investor.”—“News.”
