THE OPUNAKE RAILWAY.
A letter was received from the Nornianby Town Board by tlie Hawera Borough Council on Wednesday ovoning asking it to distribute copies of a petition to be presented to Parliament urging the construction of the Opunako Railway. Tiie Mayor explained at some length the conferences at Hawora and Aiiroa, and mentioned that the tramway project had not been dropped; It was, lie said, too'lute to get a Bill prepared for the present session of Parliament, although he had done his best to have it ready, fie did not think there was any objection to the requests of .tlio Town Board being acceded to. Ho moved that copies of the petition lie distributed to the business people, and when sighed to be returned to the Town Clerk. Cr. Campbell seconded. Cr. Sargeson remarked that anyone who had followed the Minister for Public Works closely while in tin’s district could not help thinking tlipt tlio line would not coino this side of the Mountain. The motion was carried.
