FARMERS’ UNION.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, J nly 2S. At the Farmers’ Union Coiuereiico to-day the following officers were elected: —president, J. G. Wilson (nulls); vice-presiaeat, G. Leacdey i Aslioui ton); treasurer, W. Bn cn (Marton); auditor, W. Ruthcnord (Palmerston Jsortn); advisory conimittee, J. Cooper, \V. Lircli, T. Hat vlev, E. Campbell. it resolution was passed urging on tiie Government the need ot passing the long-delayed Local Government Wellington, July 28. There was some plain talking at the conference to-day on the following motion, introduced by Mr. Evans, canterbury -"That the conference take into consideration the operations of, the Arbitration Act with reference to its bearing on the industries of tiio 'Dominion, /as it is of opinion tmft it is seriously retarding then development; and the Government bo asked to appoint a Royal Commission of practical men to enquire into the operations of the Act.” TJ ie mover said if the workers did not have the decisions by the Court made in their favour, they threw over tho Court and took tiie law into their own hands. Farmers were disturbed, not by tho actual workers on farms, but by their loaders. Another speaker asserted that the whole of the farming industry was subject to paralysis by the agitators. Eventually the motion was amended and carried to the effect that the advisory committee take into consideration* the operations of the • Arbitration Act with reference to its bearing on industries,' and submit the results to the Minister for Labour.
